SEISMIC MONITORING AND INDUCED SEISMICITY

The seismic monitoring of a territory or an area is one of the techniques used in the development of knowledge regarding          behavior of earth faults and tectonic plates.

NIEP has in the field of activity the seismic monitoring of the territory of Romania, it issues timely notifications about the earthquake parameters and estimates their impact on the territorial administrative units. Thus for the determination of the seismicity induced in the areas with exploration and exploitation of oil and gas, activities related to the geothermal exploitation, accumulation lakes seismic monitoring on a restricted area is one of the recommended technologies, and for the analysis of the data specific programs are used.

SHAKEMAP

ShakeMap is a representation of the earth's motion produced by an earthquake. The information it presents is a sequence of maps intended for the public, which includes scientists, businesses, government institutions, media and the general public. Thus are presented maps of ground motion using data from speed and acceleration sensors, as well as a map that estimates the distribution of Mercalli intensity. This map shows the recorded ground movement associated with the damage distribution. Currently, we produce shakemaps for earthquakes that have taken place in Romania and its vicinity.
