Monitoring the seismicity of the Romanian territory with the help of seismic stations within the NATIONAL SEISMIC NETWORK, is one of the important objectives of the NIEP. The registered data contributes to the international exchange of data between NIEP and International Data Centers, as well as to the development of the international seismic bulletin. Products and services provided by the National Seismic Network:

  • the creation of a data bank consisting of digital recordings of local, regional and telesseal events;
  • updating the catalog with seismic events occurring on Romanian territory and in the vicinity of the national borders;
  • informing in the shortest time from the occurrence of an earthquake with a magnitude greater than 3.5 degrees Richter of the national decision-makers and and mass-media;
  • acquiring data (accelerograms) required for engineering seismology;
  • real-time mapping of soil movement;
  • producing maps useful to the authorities for post-earthquake intervention. The National Seismic Network is made up of six sub-networks:
    • Analog network of seismic stations equipped with short-term sensors
    • Network of digital seismic stations equipped with broadband and short-range sensors
    • The network of digital stations equipped with acceleration sensors installed in the freezer
    • The network of digital stations equipped with acceleration sensors, installed in a free area in Bucharest
    • Network of seismic observatories for complex monitoring
    • Seismic Networks on restricted areas, ARRAY type - networks
